A MAN & THE MOON
(idolatry in love)
a children’s poem
There once was a man who so loved the Moon,
He decided that the right thing to do
was to get real still
and pray real hard
to his invented, unreal,
moonlight-y god.
“Oh Moon, my dear, I’ve come to find,
your glow captivates my troubled mind.
Might I request (if it’s alright),
to carry just a twentieth of your Light’s Shine?”
The Moon, courageously, remained as she were
(only partially because she cannot hear).
Understanding the rejection of this type of affection,
the man’s love took redirection:
“There is nothing you can ever do to make me stop loving you. Never again will I ask for parts of you to fill my lack.”
Heed this tale, young and old, if somebody especially cold
withdrew their love when you (out of self-respect) didn’t do
something that they asked you to.
For there once was a man
who so loved the Moon,
he left her to be
exactly who
She already was
(you are the Moon).
